Maud (Tennyson)
Maud is a highly autobiographical ‘mono-drama’ which Tennyson used to declaim to all comers for three hours at a time. It leaps to life in a semi-staging, like an hour-long song-cycle.
Tips: See page 10 of the Programme for an explanation of the narrative. The music we chose, by that great exponent of the song cycle, Robert Schumann, is freely available online.
